Abstract
562,429. Arc-rupturing in switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 15, 1943, No. 4181. Convention date, March 20, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] An air-break switch employing an arc-shoot, for example, as in Specification 541,612, comprises a movable arc horn 24 engaging in a slot-like recess in a fixed arc horn 25 along which the arc is driven by a blow-out magnet 27 energized in series therewith only when the arc is transferred to the horn. The arc horn 24 carries an arc-drawing contact 23 co-operating with a fixed contact 15, which is pivoted at 20 in a terminal block 13 and given a " wipe " by means of a spring 21 in a recess in the block 13. The main fixed contact 14 has rubbing engagement at 17 with block 13 and follows, under spring-action 16, the movable main contact 18 which, with arc horn 24, is formed on a connecting piece 19 at the ends of spaced levers 3 pivoted at 4. In opening, a tube 33 drives a piston 31 into a cylinder 30 to produce an air-blast through orifice 34, in which connection Specification 537,311 also is referred to.
