Abstract

561,074. Feeding sheets. STEVENS, A. H. (Miller Printing Machinery Co.). June 27, 1941, No. 10260. Divided out of 561,072. [Class 100 (i)] Relates to sheet-feeding apparatus such as is described in Specifications 561,072 and 561,080 divided therefrom in which sheets or flat articles are fed from a pile and advanced to printing or other machines by means of perforated or pervious belts 360, Fig. 1, or 367, Fig. 2, passing over surfaces connected to exhaust apparatus which causes the leading edges, Fig. 1, or the rear edges, Fig. 2, of separated sheets &c. to be attracted to the belts so that these edges are continuously held to the belts by suction. According to the present invention, the sheets &c. are adapted to be advanced in overlapped condition. The sheets are separated from a pile 361 by means of suction separators 364 acting on the rear edges of the sheets, assisted by air blasts from a pipe 365, and in Fig. 2 the rear edges of the sheets are held by suction apertures arranged above the lower run of a conveyer belt 367, the forward edges being held by a plain conveyer belt 360.
