560,738. Machinery guards. ALVIS, Ltd., and PRATT, W. A. Jan. 23, 1943, No. 1186. [Class 80 (iv)] An adjustable guard for drilling and like machines comprises telescopic curved shield parts 28, 32 secured to a rod 25 rotatable and axially adjustable in a split end 24 of an arm 21 pivoted on a pillar 19 carried by an arm 18 which is itself pivoted on a bolt 16 secured to a part 11 adapted to be secured to the vertical dovetailed slide or other convenient part of the machine frame. The two joints have substantial friction which can be regulated by nuts 22. The guard, the lower part of which has an inspection aperture at its lower end, may be swung into an inoperative (full lines) or operative (chain lines) position and held by the clamping screw 26. The axes at 25, 19 and 16 are all parallel to the axis of the machine spindle. The lower part 28 has a turned-over edge 34 to receive the free end of the upper telescoping part 32. Specifications 32/01, 18732/08 and 10221/09, [all in Class 80], are referred to.
