Abstract
560,334. Indicating apparatus. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1942, No. 14478. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1941. [Class 106 (iv)] A measuring instrument includes a moving system for directly actuating one' pointer, and a multiplying filar gear system coupling the moving system to a second pointer, separated sets .of graduations being provided for the two pointers. As ;shown applied to an electrical measuring instrument or altimeter, a moving coil 37, Figs. 2 and 3, supported in jewel bearings 38, carries a segmental toothed member 36 to which is attached a pointer 34 that cooperates with an arcuate scale 33 on the dial plate 11. Meshing with the member 36 is a filar gear comprising end flanges 15 and elements 16 of,silk or a synthetic resin with a staff 12 mounted in jewel bearings 17, 18 and carrying a pointer 35 that co-operates with a circular scale 32. The pointer 35 is carried by a cross 14, Fig. 4, and is balanced by a counterweight 22 and a bridge member 24 anchored after' adjustment to the cross 14. As shown, the pointer 35 makes two. and a half rotations for a full scale displacement of the pointer 34. In a modified form, the spindle of the moving coil is extended and carries a pointer that co-operates with a scale arranged of the dial plate between the axes of the coil and filar gear.
