Abstract

560,071. Liquid - pressure engines. HOARE, S. W. Nov. 13, 1942, No. 16076. [Class 69 (ii)] In a double-acting liquid pressure engine of the kind in which a distributing valve 15 is reciprocated by a piston 22, a valve 28 controlling supply of pressure liquid to the latter is oscillated by tappets 33 &c. on a crankshaft 12 or other rotary part of the engine and is so formed as to be incapable of cutting off completely the flow of pressure liquid. The control valve comprises two discs 27 connected by a bridge member 28 having surfaces 29 narrower in width than the ports 30, 31 with which they co-operate, whereby at an intermediate position all the ports are in communica- 'tion. By this means a smooth reversal of the valve is effected. The engine may comprise two or more cylinders.
