Abstract

569,994. Polishing piston &c. rings. CROSS, R. C., and CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938), Ltd. Oct. 28, 1943, No. 17821. [Class 60] The . flat faces of piston and other rings &c. are polished by means of an endless polishing band 1 beneath which is a supporting plate 2, and above which is supported a rotatable chuck 3, for example, as provided on a bench drill 4. In the chuck is mounted a rubber &c. pad 5 which serves to drive the work, which is placed in an opening 7 in a fixed register plate 6 ; the work is rotated at high speed and the band is travelled relatively slowly, either continuously or with reciprocatory movement. The plate 6 may be pivoted on a transverse axis, work-pieces being fed by hand or automatically into the opening 7, and the plate being lifted, after completion of polishing, to allow the band 1 to carry away the work to a discharge hopper.
