Abstract

569,809. Typewriters. PAILLARD & CIE SOC. ANON. E. Dec. 14, 1943, No. 20941. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1942. [Class 100 (iv)] The line-spacing of a typewriter in which the platen 14 is mounted in a carriage 12 can be effected by means of a. hand-operated lever 16 arranged at the front of the carriage or by means of a mechanically-actuated lever 37 at the rear face. In either case the platen is rotated by a ratchet 27 and a pawl 25 pivoted to a ring freely mounted on the platen shaft and adapted to be oscillated by a link 22 acted upon by a return spring 30. The link 22 is connected to a freely-mounted lever 21. formed with stops 31, 29 for transmitting motion to the lever 21 from the levers 16, 37 independently of one another. The lever 16 acts via a link 17, a freely-mounted lever 19 and stop 31, and the lever 37 via lever 35, link 34, lever 32 and stop 29. The links 17, 22 are substantially parallel, and the carriage 12 can be moved longitudinally by the lever 16.
