Abstract

569,548. Compound sheet materials. SHAW & SONS (SALFORD), Ltd., J., and FERN, J. F. Nov. 1, 1943, No. 18055. [Class 140] [Also in Group XXIX] A hydraulic press e.g. for applying axial and edgewise pressure in the manufacture of laminated sheets, comprises hotplates 6 resting on supports 13 when the press is open and each carrying edge pressing plates 16 detachably connected to the hotplate and to edge plates 19. The pressing plates 16 may be detachably and slidably secured to the hotplates by brackets 15. and have projections 17 retained in grooves in the edge platens by plates 18. Alternatively the plates 18 may be omitted and horizontal slats provided to intersect the grooves in the platens whereby the pressing plates 16 may be disconnected therefrom. Thickness stops 20 on the hotplates project slightly above the edge pressing plates. The supports 13 are in the form of members detachably secured to the press frame 12 and stepped for engagement by projections 14 on the hotplates.
