Abstract
569,211. Electromagnetic switches. RUSSELL, E. S. Oct. 30, 1943, No. 17973. [Class 38 (v)] Upon energization of a solenoid 1, a totallyenclosed core 8, which also acts as the piston of a dash-pot, moves slowly to the left thereby increasing the magnetic flux across a gap 5 till an armature 12 is attracted to the gap against the action of a spring 18 and contacts 17 are operated. In the form shown a cam surface 15 opens the contacts 17 and the armature is held latched. The opening of contacts 17 breaks the circuit of coil 1 as well as a load circuit so that the core 8 quickly returns to the right under the action of a spring 9, a non-return valve 10 allowing fluid to flow through a central passage in the core. The device is then ready for the next operation which may be started by pulling out the knob 14 fixed to the armature 12 whereupon the contacts 17 close and the solenoid 1 is again energized. The device may be used in conjunction with an electric toaster to time the latter.
