Abstract
569,124. Tea infusers. NOWAKOWSKI, M. K. July 14, 1944, No. 1246. [Class 129] An apparatus for infusing tea, or the like, comprises a steam-tight outer vessel A containing water, and an inner vessel B, on the bottom of which rests a wire basket F, containing tea. The basket has a 'handle J. The inner vessel is provided with a lid N and a pipe G for drawing off the tea. The outer vessel is heated and when the water boils, the pressure in A rises causing water to rise up a pipe C and flow down a pipe D and out through perforations in the bottom of D. This continues until the water level in A falls below the bottom of B and steam commences to escape from under the lid N. A tap H is then opened to reduce the pressure in A, the heat supply reduced and, after a short time, the basket F is removed after it has been agitated in the tea. A gauge level glass and a drain cock are fitted to the outer vessel A. An annular float may cover the surface of the tea to prevent any contact with the atmosphere. The outer vessel may be lagged to prevent heat loss. A small condenser may be fitted to a three-way cock which replaces H to prevent loss of water, the condenser also communicating with the bottom of A through a constriction in a pipe. Automatic operation using electromagnets and relays under the control of pressure gauges, may be used in larger sizes of infusers, and a signalling device incorporating coloured lamps included.
