Abstract
569,026. Baling-presses. HINDLE, T., and BANKS, V. P. Oct. 20, 1943, No. 17217. [Class 94 (i)] A vertical baling-press for packing loose fibrous &c. material into dense bales is constructed so that the compression of the material is performed in two consecutive stages by a. primary ram B having a long stroke which forces the material M from a filling box A into a baling chamber C in which the final compression is effected by a ram D preferably operated hydraulically. Prior to the operation of the ram B, which may be raised by cords and a winch and descend by gravity, the box A is charged with a definite amount of material by the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, in which light trucks G are charged with a definite weight of material, and are raised by a lift K and passed on rails to the door of box A through which the contents of say four trucks are passed by the aid of conveyers g. Before the ram B descends a layer of canvas E', Fig. 5, adapted.to cover the top and two sides of the bale is placed below the ram which may be provided with pins to prevent displacement of the canvas as the ram descends. The ram B descends and forces the compressed material into the chamber C, and a shutter c with an aperture c<3> through which the ram B can pass is closed after the ram B commences its upward stroke. A stillage board F, to which on the underside is attached sufficient canvas to cover the remaining two sides of the finished bale, is placed on the ram D, and the ram is operated by electrically-driven hydraulic pumps, preferably of the three-ram type and operated by a series wound motor. Prior to the application of the hydraulic pressure the canvas side pieces E<1> are pulled through the doors c<2> of the chamber C and held taut by clamps. After the compression these canvases arc held in position by wires passed around the bale through grooves in the shutter c and board F. The canvases on the board F are subsequently sown in position. The refilling of the box A occurs during the action of the ram D and the material M is prevented from reaching the shutter c by means of trap doors a which are moved to tho position shown in Fig. 6 during the final compression operation.
