568,007. Refrigerating systems. UNIPEKTIN. AKT.-GES. July 1, 1940, No. 11111. Convention date,. July 1, 1939. [Class 29] [Also in Groups III and VI] Fruit or vegetable juice is colloidally subdivided and homogenized by passage through a mill, comprising a rotor 16 and a stationary milling crown 21, and sprayed down a tube 25 into a chamber 24 under high vacuum, e.g. 4 mm. of mercury, whereby the juice boils and is cooled to below 0‹ C. by evaporation. The gases previously dissolved therein are freed and continually drawn off through an aperture 27 and pass through three vacuum-producing devices 26, 31, 35. The gas-free juice passes through a pipe 42 to a reservoir 44 whence it is led to bottling apparatus on to steam boilers 47, 48 in which it is clarified by heating to 50-60‹ C. under vacuum, being then filtered, bottled under vacuum and sterilized. The mill chamber 11 and the chamber 24 are connected by a pipe 23. The spray is produced by a grid 22, but instead nozzles or conical rotor spraying means may be used. The devices 26, 31, 35 comprise steam ejectors 28, 32, 36 and water condensers 29, 35 fed by atmospheric pressure from a tank 40 and discharging into a container 39. Pumps may be used for drawing off juice and water.
