Abstract
566,887. Gyroscopic apparatus. JACK & HEINTZ, Inc. Feb. 9, 1943, No. 2147. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1942. [Class 97 (iii)] In a directional gyroscope the tendency of the gimbal ring 4 to drift relatively to the graduated and rotatable frame 1, 2 is prevented by a pair of soft iron armatures 12 on the gimbal ring 4 and a pair of adjustable electromagnets 13 carried by the rotatable frame 1, 2 and energized through a switch 23 and conductor ring 19, the torque applied by these means being, however, insufficient to interfere with the free relative rotation of the gimbal ring and rotatable frame in effecting its direction indicating function. The electromagnets are secured by screws 17 adjustable along arcuate slots in a shoulder on the reference card 2. Gear teeth 3 are provided for adjusting the position of the frame 1.
