Abstract
566,317. Luminescent materials. NATIONAL MARKING MACHINE CO., Ltd. (National Marking Machine Co.). June 17, 1943, No. 9785. [Class 39 (i)] An ink for the identification marking of fabrics comprises an ingredient which, under the action of heat or steam is convertible to a compound which exhibits fluorescence under ultra-violent rays. The ink may comprise an acid salt and a resinous material dissolved in a mixture of water, glycerine and isopropyl alcohol. The resinous material may be a polyvinyl alcohol resin. The acid salt may be the hydrochloride salt of alpha phenyl meta amino benzimidazole or hydrochloride salts of similar compounds. This substance will not be dissolved by dry cleaning solvents, but under the heat and steam of pressing it will be hydrolysed and form the free base. This fluoresces under ultra-violet light and will be dissolved out by the next dry - cleaning operation.
