Abstract
In the fixation on textile materials of basic dyestuffs by means of lake-forming inorganic acids, the basic dyestuff and a water-soluble salt of the acid component are applied together in aqueous alkaline solution and thereafter the insoluble lake is precipitated by acidification. Advantageously, the dyestuff is dissolved in water containing a water-miscible non-acidic solvent and an alkaline aqueous solution of a salt of the lake-forming component is mixed therewith, preferably after adjustment of the pH to 9-11, and the mixture, with or without suitable thickening, is applied to the textile material which is then dried, if desired steamed, and acidified to precipitate the lake. The lake-forming acid is preferably one derived from a metallic transitional element, e.g. molybdic acid or tungstic acid, or is a heteropoly acid in which the nuclear acid is phosphoric, arsenic, or silicic acid and the co-ordinated acid is derived from a metallic transitional element as above. In examples: (1) an aqueous solution containing Victoria Blue R, alcohol and urea, is mixed with Carob bean thickening and an alkaline solution of sodium molybdate adjusted to a pH of 9-11, and the mixture is printed on a viscose rayon cr<\>zepe fabric, which is then dried, steamed for one hour to assist penetration, further treated with steam containing acetic acid vapour, soaped, rinsed and dried; (2) an aqueous solution of Xylene Blue AS containing ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, glycerol, disodium hydrogen phosphate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate is mixed with tragacanth thickening and an aqueous solution of sodium phospho-molybdate at a pH of 9-11 and the mixture is printed on a spun viscose fabric which is then further treated as in (1), the steaming being for 20 minutes; (3) an aqueous solution of Rhodanine 6G extra containing ethylene glycol and disodium hydrogen phosphate is mixed with an aqueous solution of sodium molybdate at a pH of 9-11, the mixture is padded on to viscose taffeta material which is then treated with steam containing acetic acid vapour, washed and dried; (4) an aqueous solution of Brilliant Green crystals YS containing diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is mixed with tragacanth thickening and an aqueous solution of sodium phospho-tungstate at a pH of 9-11 and the resulting paste is printed on a cotton fabric which is then further treated as in (3); (5) an aqueous solution of Methyl Violet containing diethylene glycol and tragacanth thickening is mixed with an aqueous solution of sodium tungstate at a pH of 9-11 and the resulting paste is printed on a fabric of cotton warp and viscose filament weft which is then steamed for 3 minutes, passed through steam containing acetic acid vapour, washed and dried.
