[Class 83 (iv)] Formers.-In bending a section bar 5 about a die 1 with a web 5b projecting inwardly, this web is pressed during the bending operation into a recess 6, Fig. 2, in the radial face of the die, which is undercut to accommodate the wrinkled form produced. These wrinkles are then flattened, e.g. by pressing between a flat plate and a flat bolster around the edge of which the bent bar is placed. The die 1 has two plates 3, 4 loosely attached to it by bolts 9 but held close during bending by catches 10. ' The bar is clamped to the die by a detachable clamp 16 and is engaged by a bar 19 adapted to slide longitudinally in a head 20 adjustable along the arms 15 of a hand lever 14 pivoted at the centre of curvature of the die by a removable pin 11 which is secured by a catch. The movement of the lever is limited by a stop 24. After bending, the pin 11 and lever 14 are removed, the catches 10 are swung back and the plates 3, 4 drawn apart to release the bent bar. To make bonds of opposite hands, the arms 15 are made wide enough to have holes for the pin 11 opposite the upper as well as the lower roller 21, Fig. 1, one hole being used when making clockwise and the other counterclockwise bends.
