Abstract

564,242. Electromagnetic switches. JACK & HEINTZ, Inc. June 17, 1943, No. 9776. Convention date, June 5, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] In a shielded relay the electromagnet 5 and the fixed and movable contacts 21, 15 are carried by an insulating body 3 which is covered by a complementary insulating body 4, the bodies 3, 4 then being enclosed by complementary metallic housing shells 1, 2. In the form shown, the insulating bodies 3, 4 have semi-cylindrical extensions forming cylindrical extensions when the bodies are united and the shells 1, 2 have semi-cylindrical threaded extensions 36, 37, forming cylindrical extensions for securing conduits carrying the cables. The cables for the magnet and for the controlled circuit pass through grooves in the engaging insulating surfaces. Other cables may pass through a groove in the upper surface of body 4, byepassing the relay. The shells 1, 2 may be readily removed by unscrewing screws passing through hollow dowels extending from shell 1 and received in shell 2 and body 4 may then be removed by unscrewing further screws which pass from the body 4 into ferrules which seat against and are fixed to the abutting flanges of the two half-casings 6, 7 enclosing the magnet.
