Abstract

564,086. Furnace walls &c. ANDERSOR, R. H., and ALLEN, H. V. June 8, 1943, Nos. 9166 and 14767. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] The walls and arches of furnaces of the kind described in Specification 545,168 are formed of refractory blocks having permeable and impermeable portions containing cavities into which pass gases from the furnace, when the blocks are assembled, through the permeable portions. The permeable portions C and impermeable portions D may be integral, as shown in Fig. 1, with a cavity B, or separate with the cavity B between the parts, as shown in Figs. 6 and 8. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 7, the blocks may be divided so that each comprises a permeable and impermeable portion C, D and a recess to form a cavity B when assembled, a bead F and recess being provided as shown to facilitate assembly. The outer surfaces of the imperforate portions and recesses may be provided with a film of glaze. The blocks may be formed wholly of permeable material with an outer covering of glaze. The permeable portions of the blocks may have mechanically formed perforations.
