Abstract
553,136. Titanium dioxide. NATIONAL TITANIUM PIGMENTS, Ltd., and BENNETT, A. N. C. Oct. 6, 1941. No. 12894. [Class 1 (iii)] Rutile titanium dioxide pigments having improved pigmentary properties are obtained by calcining, in the presence of a small quantity of a zinc compound, a titanium dioxide hydrolytically precipitated and having the property on calcination of giving a rutile dioxide without the addition of promoting substances, e.g. the precipitates obtained by the processes of Specifications 513,867, 533,227 and 546,283. Additions of small amounts of potassium, sodium, lithium or magnesium compounds may be used in conjunction with the zinc, the amount of which is from 0.2 to 2.0 per cent. calculated as zinc oxide.
