Abstract

550,908. Sliver conductors for carding machines. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., and CHANTLER, T. Feb. 3, 1942, No. 1417. [Class 120 (i)] The fleece from a burr-crushing machine interposed between a pair of carding machines or from a carding machine is guided and fed to a second carding machine by light revoluble cones which are adjustably supported on a table or surface and are frictionally driven by the fleece which is gathered and guided diagonally inwards from each side and to the centre of the machines; the resulting sliver is collected and delivered to the second carding machine by a trumpet and calendar rollers. As shown the fleece F from burr-crushing rollers passes over a roller a, mounted in bearings on the framework of the crushing machine, between light sheet metal cones d disposed on each side of the longitudinal centre of the machines and each mounted on a pointed spindle d<SP>1</SP> carried by a bar d<SP>4</SP> adjustably fixed to a table b also mounted on the frame of the crushing machine; a bent metal plate c is adjustably mounted on the table below the roller a. The fleece from the cones is delivered to a trumpet e and calendar rollers f, f<SP>1</SP> I carried, by the support b<SP>3</SP> of the table b and the rollers a, f, f are driven from the lower burr-crushing roller. In a modification the fleece from the doffer of a carding machine passes between similar cones to the trumpet and calendar rollers, the latter being driven from the doffer.
