Abstract

550,403. Valves. BROWETT LINDLEY (1931), Ltd., J., and HUTTON, J. July 12, 1941, No. 8837. [Class 135] A ring plate valve for use on air compressors comprises a valve seat in the form of a disc having a series of ports therein and a valve plate in the form of a thin disc mounted for movement with respect to the seat and having a series of holes with a length substantially equal to their width therein disposed to lie between the ports in the valve seat so that imperforate portions of the valve plate close the ports on the valve seat when the plate is in its closed position in contact with the seat. In the form shown in Fig. 3 the valve plate 1 has series of circular holes 2 with rounded edges guided on a spacing washer arranged between a seat 5 and a ported guard plate 10 which is clamped to the seat by a flanged tubular member 11 and nut 12. The seat has a series of concentric annular orifices 6 opening from tapered passages 15 between seating ridges 8. A dished laminated cushion plate 9 is arranged between the valve member and guard plate. In a modification the valve plate is loaded by a series of helical springs. In other forms the valve plate is formed integrally with a pair of straight or curved spring arms anchored to the seating.
