Abstract

550,102. Knitting-machines. TOONE (NOTTINGHAM), Ltd., B., and TOONE, R. N. May 21, 1941. No. 6497. [Class 74 (ii)] A device is provided at the plain side of the needles and between the yarn feeder and severing means for receiving and positioning for reintroduction a splicing or other yarn withdrawn at intervals from knitting. The device comprises two members 71, 72 having between them a narrow gap 74 extending in the general direction of the relative movement between the withdrawn yarn S and the device. A recess 75 is provided in the member 72 together with a catch 76 which prevents the discharge from the gap in the reverse direction when the yarn is re-introduced for knitting. The yarn end draws out of the device lengthwise upon its re-introduction into the fabric. The yarn-feeding means 10, tensioning means 19 and severing means,29, 30 may be as described in Specifications 532,520 and 532,586. The yarn-positioning device is movable with the feeder 10 towards the feeding position to offer the yarn extending between the feeder and the device to the needles.
