Abstract

559,116. Transmission dynamometers. SAY, A. W., MORRISON, P. H., JARVIS, P. J., and PLESSEY, CO., Ltd. June 30, 1942, No. 9033. [Class 40 (i)] An instrument for measuring the power transmitted by a shaft 10, 11 comprises a resilient coupling 12 joining two portions of the shaft and two identical A.C. generators, of which the permanent magnet rotors 13, 14 are driven respectively from the two shaft portions and the output circuits are connected in opposition through a potentiometer resistance 20, between one end 22 and the slider 21 of which is connected a voltmeter 23 calibrated in terms of power. The rotors 13, 14 may be coupled to the shaft sections 10, 11 through gearing instead of being mounted directly thereon.
