Abstract
558,356. Compound sheet materials. SMITH. S. C. May 23, 1942, Nos. 7066/42 and 10058/43. [Class 140] [Also in Group XXIII] Relates to a method of cementing sheets of veneer, paper or fibre by means of resin of the urea-formaldehyde type in conjunction with a hardener, adhesion being affected by the action of heat and pressure. Two layers of this type of adhesive are applied to a surface, and the pH value of the first layer is less than that of the second layer. Usually the first coating contains the normal quantity of hardener and the second coating, which is applied after the first coat has lost its tackiness, contains no hardener, or a smaller quantity of the hardener, or a suitable quantity of a different hardener. The invention enables coated sheets to be left for a longer period than usual before they are stuck together.
