Abstract

557,908. Armoured vehicles. CHROBOK, P. Feb. 22, 1943, No. 2405/42. [Class 92 (i)] An endless track armoured gun carriage has one or more rotary gun turrets 10, 11, 12, Fig. 4, disposed centrally of the width and sunk into the interior of the carriage, each turret having a diameter such that side spaces 96, Fig. 5 are provided for accommodating troops, equipment, and stores and each turret having a bottom floor 25 to support the gun crew. As shown, the turrets are mounted within armoured chambers 22, 23, 24 providing cabins 100, 101, 102 for driver, observer and commander. Each turret mounts twin guns 52 of 40-60 mm. calibre with automatic loading and the turrets are arranged as shown for fire in relation to stepped deck or roof plates 1, 2, 3. The top edges of the armour overhang the bottom edges at the back, front and sides to provide buoyancy if the vehicle is used amphibiously. The back wall 20 is hinged to provide a ramp for entry or egress. Armoured plates form a skirt 16 to enclose the endless track wheels 17. The side compartments can house field carriages 97 for 75 mm. guns and compartments for mine throwers 98 are provided. Hydro gen for flame throwers is stored in chambers 95. Special compartments for track motors 80 and fuel 8 are provided. The guns 52 are mounted for recoil in cradles elevated by worm gears 72 driven from elevating motors 61. Each turret is trained by a motor 38 through a cardan shaft 34 which allows for a slight rocking of the turret under fire.
