Abstract
557,134. Tensioning binding straps. THOMSON, H. A. March 21, .1942, No. 3760. [Class 45] [Also in Groups XXII, XXV and XXVIII] A strap 1 for wrapping packages, holding insulating sections on pipes, or for making hose connections, has its ends passed through a link 2 made preferably of square section metal. The anchored end 3 of the strap is bent under itself so as to be gripped against the material 9 of the pipe &c. and the longer end 11 is engaged by a slotted rod or tube which is rotated to produce a coil and then withdrawn. For turning the rod or tube a handle is connected thereto by a flexible joint, so that by bringing the handle into line with the rod it can be turned rapidly, or by swinging it to a right-angled position it can be turned slowly with a more powerful effect. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which two slots 13, 14 are provided in the link 12 which has an upright 16 against which the coil 15 can bear and lie squarely over the aperture 14.
