Abstract
556,910. Airscrews. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and OWNER, F. M. March 23, 1942, No. 3853. [Class 114] Spinners for variable-pitch airscrews, particularly those having cuffs fitted to the shanks of the blades, are formed with a raised surface 12, which is faired into the surface of the spinner and mates with the lower edge of the cuff 17 or the part of the blade moving over the spinner, in order to facilitate the flow of air and avoid turbulence and drag. The part 12 has a surface of revolution and surrounds the forward half of the cut-out 11, through which the blade passes. The lower edge of the cuff is correspondingly shaped on its forward side, so as to be spaced by a minimum amount from the spinner surface.
