Abstract

555,909. Instrument boards for motor-vehicles. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), Ltd., S., and HURN, F. J. Feb. 9, 1942, No. 1709. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] An instrument panel comprises a support 12 ... 15 having means for securing instruments in a number of positions thereon and a mask 40 which covers the front of the support and is provided with openings 41 through which the instruments may be viewed and is adapted to obscure one or more of unwanted mounting positions on the support in which other instruments or fittings may be mounted in other models. In the construction shown the facia board 10 has a recess 11 in which the instrument support is secured by members 9 ,the support comprising four metal bars 12 - - 15. The main instruments 21 - - 25 are formed with lugs 20 which span the bars 13, 14 to which they are secured by screws inserted in appropriate holes 19 in the bars. Switches 26, 27, 35, 36, a cigar lighter 29, indicators 28, 30, and a choke control 34 are also mounted on the support as well as a fuse board 37 and three terminal boards 38. Masks 40 are provided having openings 41 to suit any desired number or arrangement of instruments. Each mask has side flanges 43 which fit in recesses in the board 10 and cover the ends of t he support The mask is secured in position by ball catches 44. All electrical connections 39 from the instruments are brought to the terminal boards 38 and are thus readily accessible after the mask has been removed.
