[Class 137] A ventilator adapted to admit air to and extract air from an enclosure comprises external windcatching scoops, one collecting the incoming air, and the other exhausting the used air through separate passages in one aperture, baffles, gauzes or metallic wool being used to prevent passage of light or water to the enclosure. In Fig. 2, scoop 30 directs the air through baffles 37 to passage 32 leading to the interior from which the air is extracted through an oppositely directed passage 33, baffles 37, and extractor scoop 31. This form of ventilator is provided with sheet-metal stampings 34, 35 which fit into a port-hole in which the assembly is secured by a pair of clamps 38 and wing-nuts 40. The louvres may be of the kind described in Specifications 537,542, 539,158 and 544,635. A pivoted plate 59, Fig. 7, held in a medium position by springs 79 is forced back by entering water which passes straight through. Hinged plates 61, 62 direct the air, and, when a deadlight is closed, are pressed back against the louvres. A modification, Fig. 11, especially suitable for the roofs of vehicles comprises louvres 83 in the exterior inlet and outlet passages which are also fitted with gauze screens 82, plates 90, 93 dividing the ventilator into halves. Metal guards 87 are provided, and a control valve 94. In Fig. 19, baffles 112 projecting alternately from opposite sides of the air passage are provided. Where double gauze screens are fitted, the space between them may be filled with medicated cotton wool. Gauze screens or packs of wire wool may be used to replace the louvres.
