Abstract

542,936. Dyeing textiles. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. July 31, 1940, No. 12398. Convention date, July 4, 1939. [Class 15 (ii)] Fast dyeings are produced on animal fibres, e.g. wool or silk, by applying thereto a watersoluble acyl derivative of a sparingly soluble dyestuff wherein the group determining solubility in water is contained in the acyl residue (cf. Specifications 480,358, 482,184 and 505,504) and thereafter steaming to eliminate the acyl residue. The steaming may advantageously be effected in presence of a hygroscopic substance, such as urea, glycerol, acetin, glycol, thiodiglycol, monoethylurea or benzylsulphanilic acid, and, if desired, of an acid-binding buffer substance, such as trisodium phosphate. In examples, (1) woollen muslin is printed with an aqueous paste containing the acylation product from benzoyl chloride-3-sulphonic acid and the ternary condensation product from cyanuric chloride (1 mol.), 2-aminoanthraquinone (2 mols.) and aniline (1 mol.), urea, glycerol, starch tragacanth thickening and trisodium phosphate and the printed material is dried, steamed for 70 minutes, rinsed, soaped, rinsed and dried to obtain fast intense yellow print ; (2) woollen muslin is padded in an aqueous bath containing the acylation product from benzoic acid-3-sulphochloride and the azo dyestuff, 2 : 5-dichloraniline# the 2<SP>1</SP>-anisidide of 2 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid, urea and glycerol and the material is squeezed, dried, steamed and further treated as in (1) to obtain a fast scarlet dyeing which can be discharged. Prints or dyeings are similarly obtainable with the condensation products from (a) benzoyl chloride-3-sulphonic acid and 4-chloro-2-methosyaniline# the anilide of 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid (red), (b) benzoic acid-3-sulphochloride and 5-nitro-2-toluidine# the 2<SP>1</SP>-anisidide of 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid (bordeaux), (c) benzoic acid-3 : 5-disulphochloride and 2 : 5- dichloroaniline# the 2<SP>1</SP> : 5<SP>1</SP>-dimethoxyanilide of 2 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid (brown).
