Abstract

542.811. Cigarette-making machines. RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. June 26, 1940, No. 10881. [Class 130] A continuous-rod machine is provided with means operable during the running of the machine to apply liquid at a substantially uniform rate to the exposed surface of the tobacco stream before the surface is engaged by a stationary compression member. The liquid serves to clean the compression member and to reduce friction. As shown, the tobacco stream on the tape 3 is transferred to a cigarette-paper web 5 supported by a tape 6 and carried beneath a stationary compression tongue 8. A roller 9 driven by a belt 10 applies a light preliminary pressure to the stream on the tape 3. An absorbent pad 11 engaging the roller 9 is supplied with a cleansing liquid such as glycerine from the outlet conduit 15 of a rotary container 14 provided with a scoop 18 delivering liquid to a drip rod 17 above the conduit 15. The scoop is pivoted at 22 to a carrier 19 so as to move relatively to the carrier and to deliver liquid to the drip rod when the latter is m a position to guide the liquid into the conduit 15.
