Abstract

542,203. Filters. FOSTER, YATES & THOM, Ltd., and LOUSLEY, N. W. Feb. 6, 1941, No. 1604. [Class 46] Filtrate is discharged by a siphon tube g from the interior of a filter element which has concentric compartments f<SP>1</SP>, f<SP>2</SP> formed of perforated metal or metal gauze and packed respectively with cotton waste and fine cotton wool. In the form of apparatus shown, oil or other liquid is supplied to the container a through a funnel d and rises to the filter element through a perforated plate c. The liquid is heated by a steam coil k. The siphon tube is fitted at the top with a funnel and priming cock (not shown) and with a stop-cock m, and the lower end of the tube, within a receiver h, is turned up to facilitate the discharge of any air entrained in the filtrate. The filter element may have an intermediate compartment packed with siliceous or calcareous material.
