Abstract

546,918. Endless - belt conveyers. THOMPSON (WOLVERHAMPTON), Ltd., J., and WILLIAMS, G. P. March 28, 1941, No. 4205. [Class 78 (i)] Relates to conveyers of the kind comprising a main conveyer belt 5 having a portion of channellike form passing-through a trough or tank 6 containing liquid in which the channel portion of the belt is immersed, the belt extending in an upwardly-inclined direction to a delivery or throw-off drum 12. Such a conveyer is described in Specification 326,392, [ Class 78 (i)], for dealing with ashes which, when discharged into the channel portion of the belt, are quenched in the liquid and carried up the inclined part of the belt to the delivery point. According to the present invention an auxiliary conveyer 19 is provided to assist in the carriage of fine materials up the inclined part of the main conveyer 5 and is positively driven at each end. In the construction shown the auxiliary conveyer comprises an endless belt 19 provided with cross slats 25 and passing over rollers 22 and end driving drums 20, 21. The auxiliary conveyer is driven at a speed slightly greater than that of the main conveyer and the end drums 20, 21 may be driven either by separate electric motors or, as shown, by chain gear 24, 23 from rollers 9, 14 of the main conveyer. The lower end of the auxiliary conveyor is driven to ensure that the belt 19 dips into the liquid in the trough 6 and makes contact with the fine material on the main belt 5. The latter is deeply troughed or channelled in the trough 6 by rollers 9 and to a less extent on the incline by rollers 10. The trough 6 is constructed as described in Specificacation 545,137.
