Abstract
546,539. Transformers ; inductances. SIMMONS, W. E., and HARMER, H. M. Jan. 16, 1941, No. 618. [Class 38 (ii)] A variable inductance or variable ratio autotransformer comprises a helical winding 6 of bare conductor the turns of which are in screw engagement with an adjustable insulating nut 15 which is slotted to carry a spring-urged contact 16 which is thus caused to traverse the conductor by rotation of the winding. Connection may be made to the ends of the winding through slip ring and brush mechanism 22, 32. The winding may have a non-circular laminated iron core around which is placed insulation having a cylindrical external shape to carry the winding. The magnetic circuit may be completed by laminated yokes 29.
