539,096. Attaching trim fabric to vehicle bodies. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. July 2, 1940, No. 11154. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1939. [Class 108 (i)] For attaching fabric trim materials to vehicle parts, a metal channel section strip has projections extending from each side wall of the strip towards the other side wall and adapted to pierce the edge of the fabric disposed between them, upon bending a wall of the channel towards the other. The strip may also secure a windlace or windcord. As applied to attaching the headlining to a roof rail 12, the channel-section strip 18 has lateral extensions or blades 21 formed each with a projection 22 and projections 20 formed by punching. A lip 16 on the windlace 15 is laid against a flange 13 of the rail 12 and the blades 21 are driven through it and slots in the flanges until the projections 22 engage behind the flange thus securing the strip and windlace to the flange. The edge of the trim fabric 17 is then inserted in the channel of the strip and by hammering the wall 18b thereof the projections 20 are caused to pierce the fabric and it is also clamped between the walls and particularly between the edges of the walls one of which is inturned at 19 for this purpose. The fabric 17 is then turned up over the wall 18b as shown in Fig. 1.
