Abstract
538,178. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 8, 1940, No. 8259. Convention date, May 9, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent screen for X-rays or cathode rays is made of alkali halides with an activator, the material being subjected to a pressure of about 15,000 lbs. per sq. in. at about 140 or 150‹ C. to convert it to a non-granular form. The pressure may also embed the material in a base and cover sheets which may be made of cellulosic sheet material, polyvinyl compounds, acrylic acid esters, rubber hydrochloride &c. A suitable combination is one part of caesium chloride to three of potassium iodide, activated by half per cent of thallium chloride, but potassium bromide and chloride, caesium iodide and rubidium iodide may also be used, and bismuth may be employed as an activator.
