Abstract
537,378. Wireless transmitting systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 15, 1939 No. 32303. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] In a single side-band modulation system, particularly for television, the unwanted band is suppressed by an arrangement which involves the use of a second modulation by a carrier wave of twice the fundamental' frequency. The carrier of frequency F is modulated at M1 by television signals of frequency O-f, and part of the modulated signals passes through a filter F1 (passing mainly the lower side-band F to F-f) amplifier A1, and filter F2 to line c. The other part of the signals from modulator M1, comprising both side-bands, passes through amplifier A4, or network DC having a delay equal to that of filter Fl, and amplifier A3, to a second modulator M2. Part of the signals from filter F1 pass through amplifier A2 and cancel out the corresponding frequencies' passing over A4, DC, A3. The remaining frequencies modulate at M2 a carrier of frequency 2F, the resulting signals being amplified at A5 and combined with the signals coming through A1.
