Abstract

536,895. Ice-making. BLOCH, R. Dec. 6, 1939, No. 31587. [Class 29] Small ice blocks are formed in cells 3 in a divided jacket-like member 4 fitted on the wall of a cylindrical evaporator or other cooling element 1, the open ends of the cells being closed by a rubber or like elastic sleeve 5 gripped at its end over the top of an outer casing 6. The cells communicate by small openings for filling when the sleeve is drawn completely over them. The progress of freezing may be observed by partly unrolling the sleeve, and after freezing is completed the sleeve is peeled away by raising the evaporator, and the compartments detached by manipulation of a lever 10. The space between the sleeve and the casing 6 provides air insulation, with an opening 11 to the atmosphere.
