Abstract

520,809. Spinning - machines &c. DONAGEMMA, P., DONAGEMMA, G., and SNIAVISCOSA SOC. NAZIONALE INDUSTRIA APPLICAZIONI VISCOSA. Jan. 12, 1939, Nos. 1119 and 1120. Convention dates, Sept. 15, 1938, and Oct. 24, 1938. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 4, 1939.] [Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] Artificial filaments are stretched by means of two idle grooved conical pulleys about which they are repeatedly passed, the lower pulley being immersed in a coagulating liquid at depths decreasing from the larger diameter end so that as the filaments pass about successive grooves starting from the smaller diameter end they pass through the liquid by increasing lengths of travel. As shown in Fig. 1, the filaments pass from the coagulating bath 32 to the conical grooved roller 28 and pass repeatedly between this and a similar roller 29. Owing to the increasing diameter of the 'grooves, the filaments are stretched. The larger end of the lower roller dips into a furthercoagulating bath. The axis of roller 29 is slightly askew in relation to that of roller 28. These rollers are rotated by passage of the filaments around them. As shown in Fig. 4, rollers 28, 29 are inclined as well as askew. The lower roller may be mounted on a support, capable of oscillation so that the roller may be removed from the bath. The rollers may be arranged so that the length of the thread portion wound on a groove or one of the conical rollers is equal to the length of the thread portion between corresponding grooves of the two rollers. The rollers may be arranged so that the projections of the axes on a horizontal plane form an angle of 10 - 30 degrees.
