Abstract

[Class 31 (i)] In a band - knife splitting - machine, hydraulic means is provided to release and then to raise the head 5 carrying the upper roll 8. Pistons 9 operated by a pump 3 raise gravity- or spring- controlled levers 31 to disengage sectors 35 from abutments 37 and then by nuts 39 cooperating with arms 21 raise the head 5. The height to which the pistons 9 rise is determined by ports 17 closed by screws 17a. The head 5 is adjustable relatively to the frame 6 by handwheels 29, The operation of the pistons 9 is determined by a tap 13. In a modification, separate pistons are provided for releasing the head and for raising it.
