Abstract

520,239. Bearings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and TILSTONE, G. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29784, [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group IV] The top bearing of the rotating spindle 2 of an electric supply meter or other measuring instrument comprises a pin 1 projecting downwards from a fixed member into a bearing bush or washer 4 secured by a cap 3 to the spindle, the washer 4 being composed of fibrous or cellulosic material impregnated with artificial resin such as bakelized textile fabric, fibre, or paper. Alternatively a pin carried by the spindle 2 may project into a bush or washer secured to a fixed member. Previously to being mounted, the bush may be immersed for a time in oil at a temperature of 50‹ C. to 100‹C., the free surface oil being subsequently removed by washing in solvents or degreasing material.
