Abstract
526,808. Exhaust-silencers. LAUBACHER, J., and KOHN, K. A. Feb. 21, 1939, No. 5806. [Class 7 (ii)] The gases flowing into the silencer at 2 are divided up into two substantially parallel spiral channels 5. 6, one of which is shorter than the other, and both communicate with a central chamber 4 disposed between the two spirals and having an exit at 3. The gases are deflected into the two spirals by a baffle 15 which is formed with an auxiliary channel 16, through which some of the gases in the spirals pass back into the entrance. The spirals are formed by walls 7, 8 and lead into inner chambers 9, 10, which communicate with the central chamber 4 through louvred openings 12 and central apertures 18. The exhaust pipe is attached to the silencer at 2 by means of a cap nut 22 and packing-ring 23. Specification 443,895, is referred to.
