Abstract

526,711. Stretchers. HERCZ, I. March 25, 1939, No. 9397. [Class 108 (i)] A collapsable stretcher comprises two pivotally interconnected tubular metal sections 1, 2 capable of being folded together or moved into alignment with each other, the stretcher being mounted on one or more wheels 8 which can swing in rigid or resiliently-mounted guides into a position or positions parallel with the sections. As shown each wheel 8 is mounted in a fork 9 secured to a tube 17 adapted to slide and rotate in a tube 13 which is pivoted at 12 on a bracket 11 on the section 1 and acted on by a spring 15. A spring catch 20 on the tube 13 is adapted to engage one of a series of spaced holes in the tube 17 so that the wheel can be moved towards or away from the bracket 11, or the catch can engage either end of a transverse hole in the tube 17 to maintain the wheel in a folded or operative position. The sections are maintained in alignment.by plugs 5 slidable in the adjacent tubular ends of the sections, each plug being slidable out of the section 1 by a handle 6 passing through a slot in section 2, to permit folding of the sections. The section 2 may be held in the inclined position, shown dotted, by the free ends of the plugs passing through lugs 7 fixed on the section 1. Normally-inclined handles 21 pivoted at one end of the stretcher can be lowered into vertical positions to constitute legs and into horizontal positions when folding the stretcher, and are held in the various positions by pin and hole connections around the pivots. Fixed handles 28 are provided at the other end. Firstaid equipment can be carried in a box 30 on the section 1.
