Abstract

524,937. Liquids for transmitting power. EVANS, E. A., and WAKEFIELD & CO., Ltd., C. C. Feb. 10, 1939, No. 4436. [Class 69 (ii)] A fluid for use in the hydraulic transmission of power in hydraulic brake systems &c. is formed of a mixture of castor oil with di-ethyl phsthalate with or without additional ingredients such as ethyl lactate, or tri-cresyl phosphate. For low temperatures (of the order -25‹F.) the castor oil may be omitted and the fluid composed of di-ethyl phthalate and ethyl lactate, to which may be added tri-cresyl phosphate with or without other ingredients excluding castor oil. The proportions in which the constituents are mixed may vary widely.
