Abstract
524,836. High-speed water craft hulls. BUGATTI, E. Feb. 8, 1939, No. 4177. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1938. [Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii)] A high-speed water craft hull is provided with one or more pockets 3 which rise upwardly from apertures 6 in the hull at about normal water line, for the entry of water from laterally striking waves, means being provided to damp resiliently the impact of water with the pocket. The hull may be stepped as at 1, and more than one aperture may communicate with each pocket. The upper end of each pocket may be fitted with a valve 7, or with a spring-pressed piston. Pressure air or gas from a blower on board the vessel may be led to the pockets, or parts 8, 9 of the walls of the pockets may be made of resilient material such as rubber. The rear edge of the apertures 6 may be serrated.
