Abstract

524,176. Combined oil and pulverized fuel burners. PITTAWAY, H., and WARD, E. G. Jan. 24, 1939, No. 2376. [Class 75 (i)] A pulverized fuel burner has a nozzle ot tapered or of Venturi form ard an oil burner mounted axially therein and is fed through a conduit divided to pass on each side of the oil burner, the two branches being connected to the rear end of the nozzle. The two streams of pulverized fuel and air are directed forwardly and inwardly across the flow of oil and air mixture from the oil burner. The nozzle may be a casting provided in a rear wall with threaded openings into which the branching pipes are screwed and may be surrounded by a water jacket. The oil burner may be axially adjustable in the nozzle and of the type described in Specification 515,883. The burner may be used with the nozzle located in the wall, for example, of a billet heating furnace, the air supply for the oil burner being preheated and mixed with dissociated water vapour.
