Abstract

513,127. Pneumatic tyres. WINGFOOT CORPORATION, March 29, 1938, No. 9555. Convention date, May 13, 1937. [Class 144 (i)] Tyre-building apparatus comprises a series of building-drums A, B ..... J arranged within a circular track 21 along which move carriages 22, 23 from which the tyre components are taken by the operators at the various stations. The bias-cut fabric strips are supplied by a cutter 36 to trays 37, 38, and the beads, chafer and breaker strips, and tread are supplied from service stations around the track. In the arrangement shown, the various fabricating- operations are performed by nine operators who move from one drum to the next in a clockwise direction. Those operators who need fresh components move the carriages by hand into positions convenient for ready removal of the material. At predetermined time intervals, the carriages are advanced, in anti-clockwise direction, by means of lugs 35 on a chain 32 which is driven around the track 21 at uniform speed. The fabric components may be loaded on the carriages on festoon racks in the manner described in Specification 372,043. Specification 505,393 also is referred to.
