Abstract

511,013. Cigarette-making machines. MULLER, J. C. Jan. 4, 1939, No. 274. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1938. [Class 130] In a continuous-rod machine tobacco is fed from a hopper 2 into a U-shaped portion of a conveyer band 5 which delivers and retains the tobacco in a groove in the perimeter of a rotating disc 14 and extends over a bridge 20 across which the tobacco rod is delivered on to a cigarettepaper 24 forwarded by a belt 22. To facilitate access to the bridge 20 the roller 16 is carried between parallel plates 31, pivotally mounted on a pin 35 secured to the machine frame and carrying a freely rotatable roller 36. In the operative position the axis of the roller 16 lies below the axis of the pin 35 and as the roller 16 is raised the slack in the band 5 is taken up by a spring-pressed tension pulley 7 slidably mounted adjacent the hopper 2. A channel of the same width as the groove in the disc is formed between side walls on the bridge and adjacent the roller 16 the side walls 29, 30, extend upwards, gradually diverge and are rounded off at the edges. A stripper 28 adjustably secured to a bar 33 between the plates 31, removes particles of tobacco adhering to the band 5.
