Abstract
519,854. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., RUSHFORTH, L., and ANDERSON, J. T. Oct. 4, 1938, No. 28785. [Class 39 (i)] ' In discharge devices such as cathode-ray tubes, iconoscopes, and electron-multipliers having on the inner wall of the envelope an electrode 2 formed as a coating of conducting material such as silver, silver sulphide or colloidal graphite, contact is made with an external terminal 1 by means of a side tube 3 which is separately coated with a metal such as platinum electrically connected to the terminal and to the inner coating. The contact between the terminal 1, and the platinum coating may be made by a spiral of wire 5 or one or more strips of steel or molybdenum having a tight spring fit in the side tube. The platinum coating may be applied to the side tube by painting on liquid silver and heating to a high temperature in a draught to give complete oxidation of organic matters.
