Abstract

519,027. Branched pipes: junction-pieces. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd., and BLAIR, J. S. Sept. 9, 1938, No. 26419. [Class 99 (i)] Branched pipes or junction-pieces for pipes have a reinforcement which completely encircles the pipe or junction-piece and comprises a number of reinforcing members lying in intersecting planes at or near the junctions. The end of a branch b, Fig. 1, is shaped to fit a V-shaped gap in a main a to which it is welded, and two U-shaped members c fit round the joints. A third rib c encircles the main, and the ends of the ribs are welded. together or to connecting pieces d. The ribs may extend between the jointing faces of the pipes, and the ends of the ribs and the pipe joint faces may be chamfered to facilitate welding. A junction-piece comprising tubes a, b connected by tubular bends b' is reinforced by nine ribs c as shown in Fig. 14. A cast-iron T-piece is described in which ribs c arranged similarly to those in Fig. 1 are cast on. Specification 463,397 is referred to.'
